THE SUPREME COURT FIXES AUGUST 31ST AS THE NEW DEADLINE FOR THE COMPLETION OF TRIAL IN THE INFAMOUS BABRI MASJID DEMOLITIONCASE
The Apex Court has extended the date of judgment as well as the completion of trial by three months in the historic Babri Masjid demolition case involving the pioneers of BJP LK Advani, Uma Bharti, MM Joshi, etc. The court has affixed that the verdict shall be delivered by August 31st in accordance with law and order, so as to avoid any further delay.
IN LIGHT OF THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC COVID-19, SC REJECTS PIL OPPOSING USE OF TERM “SOCIAL DISTANCING”/ “SAMAJIK DOORI”
The Supreme Court blatantly dismissed a plea seeking to dissuade the usage of the term “SOCIAL DISTANCING”/ “SAMAJIK DOORI” in light of the global pandemic COVID-19. The PIL sought the use of the term “PHYSICAL DISTANCING” instead of “SOCIAL DISTANCING”, as the latter is said to have a discriminatory connotation ultra vires to the letter and spirit of our Constitution.
Consequently, the plea filed by Shakeel Qureshi was dismissed by a three-judge bench who further imposed a fine of R.s/10,000.
SC REFUSES TO INTERFERE WITH NEW COVID-19 GUIDELINES PERMITTING THE SALE OF LIQUOR
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan refused to interfere with the new COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Government permitting the Sale of Liquor through direct physical contact during the lockdown, but it significantly observed that home delivery or indirect sales option should be considered.
NGT TAKES SUO MOTU COGNIZANCE OF VIZAG GAS LEAK INCIDENT
The National Green Tribunal(NGT) has taken suo motu cognizance of the Vizag gas leak incident and has directed the company, LG Polymers to deposit an initial amount of R.s 50 Crores with the District Magistrate, Vizag.
